Fly Control

Vaccination against bluetongue is undoubtedly the primary control measure that farmers can take to protect against the disease. However other management factors can also help reduce the risk of bluetongue such as removing muck heaps which can act as a breeding ground for midges or providing good fly control for both cattle and sheep.

Good fly control can help to reduce midge populations and therefore reduce the risk of BTV.

Fort Dodge have a range alpha-cypermethrin and cypermethrin based products which have an insecticidal and repellent affect against nuisance and biting flies. Midges are biting flies.
